More Responsibilities!

Posted in Ninja 250, Personal on 03/04/2013 by Dandooligan

So, the Dandooligan has been very quiet for a long time.

Work, an awesome woman, and a renewed interest in an old hobby of being outside walking in nature has taken me away from the world of motorcycle and riding for a while now.

Long-time readers will also know I have always had issues with depression. The newest on this is that I decided what I really need to is give. To give some of my time and money to something greater than myself.

Since motorcycles are very close to my heart I thought being active towards the legal representation of motorcyclists and their issues might be the appropriate place to volunteer. Thus, I am currently running social media for ABATE of Colorado, through their blog, and twitter feed.

For those of you with a vested interest in my riding life, the 250 is coming along nicely. The bottom-end is still in the shop getting massaged, and March is the month of the 250. Still shooting for April 1st as the completion date. New rules for the 250 – no more cross-country trips… Each time I come back from one I leave the bike in the garage for the remainder of the year. It’s just not good for me. I only covered 3K miles year – to Portland, OR and back to CO. I will be starting a new, commuting to work and taking short fun playful rides in the hills around the area. Nothing big….

Hopefully I’ll see you on the road! ;)

As always, rubber side down.

Driver Fail

An accident on US-36 backed up Superior to Broomfield during the Thursday, March 22, 2012 commute. No details on the accident, but it seemed a Honda Accord shoved it's face onto something much bigger, ending up very un-pretty on the back of a tow-truck.

Thank you, whoever you are, for your complete and utter lack of driving prowess! You’ve caused oodles of people to be late to work because your selfish dumbass couldn’t stay focused on a reasonable following distance. Could you please do the rest of us a favor and move to some other country, maybe communism and a total disregard towards progress would suit you better.

-Sincerely, attentive driver

Death by spreadsheet

The unforeseen side-effects of Excel torture

I’m getting close to having spent an entire day (as in 24hrs) on a single behemoth spreadsheet. No, not complaining, more a statement of awe, not knowing it to be possible. The world is turning into equations, links, and values, and while my hooligan side is simply pissed off, my OCD side is grinning in pure exstacy. I spent 2 hours just color coordinating corresponding tabs and cell blocks for goodness sake! If your not familiar with Microsoft Excel and have no idea what I’m talking about, thank the powers that be and yell a “Halleluha”, just for good measure. Stay organized. ;-)

Today, we climbed a tree.

imageSo a friend and I hung out today with nothing to do. We decided to go pick up a frizbee at REI, and after practicing hand stands and tossing the frizbee around, I looked at the tree in the photo above and thought outloud that I hadn’t climbed a tree in a very long time. He shared the sentiment, and a minute later I was up in the tree tossing my phone down so he could take a photo. We traded spots and while driving home we were discussing how we felt like kids again with dubstep playing in the background. I have gotten caught up in too many grown up things lately trying to be responsible, and as such lost any desire to live, suffering a 3 month long depression which left me fatigued and apathetic. Friend helped me figure out that life isn’t about being one or the other (grown up, or a kid). I don’t have to play with expensive grown up toys, although they are fun in their own right. I don’t have to abandon my responsibilities as a grown up either. I simply have to remember the kid in me every once in a while, and put in place a few check points, once every few months and have some good clean innocent fun. I had forgotten that innocence can be fun too.
