Repress: One awesome looking Post-Gen 250

A beautiful 250!

Jim McCloud is a really cool guy, and a really cool uncle! He found this bike for his nephew, and since it was in pretty bad shape, he thought he’d fix it up. One thing led to another, and viola, two years later, awesomeness! He said that he got many of the ideas he used on this particular 250 from MotoGP, as he is an avid fan. Although he knows what he’s doing, he found this post, and worked off of it for many parts of the project, so if you’re interested in something like this, go check it out! Jim used to own a company on the side, by the name of Restoration Station, restoring old motorcycles. However, due to high running costs he closed the company and now only does projects out of his garage if he isn’t wrenching on airplanes. If you search for Restoration Station in San Jose, you might find this Restoration Station, not Jim’s company.

He’s a very nice and polite guy, filled with energy, and a hoot to talk to! However, he knows his craft and is under no delusions about how much his work is worth. He reported this Ninja 250 project at close to $10,000, out of range for most 250 owners, but he is more than willing to work with each individual, getting them what they need. So, if you only want to purchase the front bolt-on fairing, he can do that. Currently he’s finishing up Malcolm Smith’s 1976 Husky, so he’s well connected as well!  Also, if you see this particular bike riding somewhere between Lompoc and Santa Barbarra, that’s Jim’s Nephew, one of the luckiest nephews EVAR!

Jim's CL360 after all the resto work. Beautiful bike!

Jim has an intense focus on detail.

This is another of his projects, a CL360, beautiful, isn’t it? If you were in the Bay Area, you might have seen this in the formerly Gilroy Honda, now High Gear Power Motorsports showroom last year….

mmm, delicious!!

Jim is currently accepting new projects and commissions, and can be reached at: 408 375 8935.

Small Shops: Juicer, USA

We interrupt your regular scheduled unrelated and disjointed posts by returning for a moment to continue the mini-series focusing on cool small shops…

An attention whore and nerd's dream alike. If you or your admirers don't get off on the aesthetic, you will on the tech...

This beautiful e-moto is all electric, has a max speed of 47mph, and a range of  approximate 13miles @ 20mph. OK, so not enough for most of us, but for the inner city kid, small town fashionista, or the short distance commuter it’s absolutely perfect. In fact, I like it so much, I’d be willing to move closer to my job just so I can ride one to work every day. Consider the company found it’s ideals all the way back in 1911, where piston powered bicycles looked much the same, it only makes sense that uber-high-end performance is not the focus. The motos of that era didn’t fare much better, and were most definitely a bit more of a handful to keep running – spitting fire out of uncovered valve trains, having manual spark advances and other some such delicious old tech! Once the Juicer has been squeezed dry, EMotorBicycle had the forethought to keep the pedals where they are supposed to be, so at the very least you can get home if you happen to enjoy it too much, and don’t have time to stop at a coffee shop for a healthy dose of caffeine and electrons. Sure, it might be pricey at ~$3,000, but you’ll never have to buy gas for it…

Small Shops: Motus, USA

Posted in Moto Shops with tags , , , , , , on 01/16/2012 by Dandooligan

The Motus created a lot of buzz when it first came on the scene. An all American V4 sport bike! Later we found out its better classified as a Sport Tourer, because its HUGE! 1600+cc’s, but it did provide some innovative thinking! Stock, off-the-shelf parts from the AUTO (?!?) industry thrown together make for a reasonably well performing, although pricey (for what you get) package – $40,000. Yes, the consensus is that it does what it says it does, is no more, and no less… Can’t I get a Kawi Concourse for 1/3 the price though?

Small shops: Bare Bonz Choppers

Bare Bonz Choppers, USA – CO

A blacksmith uses his mind and strength to form metal to his will. At Bare Bonz Choppers, that will is to emulate the anatomy of living things. 19 men and women work alongside Vaughn, the owner of Iron Arts Blacksmith shop to create many things, among them, choppers. None of them seem to keen to talk to anybody though, at least, not somebody with some serious clout behind their name. So if you want to talk to somebody, make sure you can make it Sturgis or some other bike gathering to get a word. They’re local to me, and they’re cool as hell, as far as I’m concerned!
